Sanitation Workers Caught Issuing Bogus Tickets

Brooklyn, NY - Sanitation workers have been caught on surveillance video handing out bogus tickets. In one case, a summons was issued for garbage that is not there.

Assemblyman Dov Hikind is outraged that in his district there is evidence that on three separate occasions sanitation workers issued fraudulent tickets to property owners.

A judge dismissed the violations.

In 2011 the Department of Sanitation issued more than 260,000 violations. The question is now being raised: how many of those tickets are valid? To solve the problem, Hikind and Sen. Jeff Klein are pushing a new bill.

Under Hikind and Klein's legislation sanitation workers will have to take a picture of the violation to go along with the summonses.

In a statement a spokesperson for the department of sanitation said: 'The DSNY is investigating the circumstances involving the summonses brought forward today by the state lawmakers. If it is determined that the summonses were improperly served, appropriate actions will be taken. For operational reasons, DSNY opposes the bill that would require DSNY employees to photograph each violation."
