Shabbat Drug Dealer Receives 5 Years In Prison


Brooklyn, NY - A drug dealer arrested last year who was known to stop sales during Shabbat will get up five years in prison.

The New York Post Reports that Edward Sorin, 38, of Sheepshead Bay was sentenced Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court to five years for weapons possession and three and a half years for a drug possession charge.

An observant Jewish drug dealer, Sorin was part of a drug gang that sent text messages to customers to say they’d be closing up early in honor of Shabbat.

The judge ordered that Sorin remain on supervised release for five years after his release.

Sorin and four others were responsible for a drug circle that dealt oxycodone, heroin and cocaine from Bedford Avenue Brooklyn residents Jack Zibak, David Gerowitz and Philip Mandel were also charged.

Police seized about 900 vials of heroin, 335 oxycodone pills, cocaine and prescription drugs Xanax, Suboxone and Klonopin after a six-month investigation.
